Procedures

Intralase SBK

Intralase SBK is two-stage procedure that allows patients a visual recovery time measured in hours rather than days. The procedure begins when a cool-beam laser creates an ultra-thin flap in the cornea (approximately 90 to 110 microns — the thickness of cellophane) and continues with a second laser correcting the patient’s refractive error. When treatment is complete, the flap is accurately repositioned by the surgeon, thanks to the flap’s beveled edge

What is Intralase SBK?

PRK

PRK involves reshaping the cornea, which must be done on the second and thickest layer of the eye, called the stroma. Laser treatments cannot be done on the outermost layer (the epithelium) as this layer is constantly regenerating and fills back in over time, which means changes to this layer would not remain constant. … more »

Monovision

Why consider Monovision

As people age, they gradually lose the ability to focus on objects that are up close. This is known as presbyopia. The natural lens inside the eye is flexible when you are young which allows the shape of the lens to change easily when you read. With increasing age, the lens gradually loses its flexibility resulting in a decreased ability to focus at close range. This process cannot be reversed but there are methods to improve near vision such as reading glasses, bifocals, progressive lenses and monovision. Monovision correction can be done with laser eye surgery and is one way to improve near vision without glasses. … more »

Clear Lens Exchange

Although not technically a laser surgery, lens exchange or refractive lens exchange surgery (RLE) is also done at Kelowna Laser Vision to reduce dependency on glasses or contact lenses. … more »
